Joaquin Phoenix Eyeing “Doctor Strange” Role

With Comic-Con underway, there’s plenty of hype around upcoming superhero movies and one unlikely character is being thrown into the rumor mill.

According to reports on Friday (July 25), Joaquin Phoenix is eyeing up a role in a brand new Marvel movie.

The Oscar-nominated actor is reportedly the frontrunner to portray Stephen Strange in “Doctor Strange,” which follows an egotistical neurosurgeon whose hands are destroyed in an accident, leading him to find a viable recovery.

Marvel head Kevin Feige can’t wait to get the film underway and told MTV News last year that Doctor Strange is “a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’”

“He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited,” Feige continued.
